Foam Rolling
What is foam rolling?
Foam rolling is a great exercise to add after a workout and on active rest days. It is like having a deep tissue massage as it works deep into the muscle to release any knots/trigger points or tension that is within the muscle and increasing blood into the muscle.
Fascia is a soft connection tissue located just below the skin which wraps and connects muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels of the body. If not enough stretching the fascia can become stiff and restricted body/muscle movement can occur. Muscle soreness and reduced flexibility can be caused also which could then lead to injury.
Benefits
Foam rolling is very beneficial when incorporated into your routine and should be done for at least 20-30 seconds on each area. It releases tension/ sore tight muscles penetrating trigger points and breaks down soft tissue and scar tissue. Injury is reduced and recovery speeds up which can then lead to enhanced muscular performance. It soothes tight fascia and can also Improve range of motion, mobility and increases flexibility.
